Private pilots may share flying expenses with their passengers . You may not charge your passengers to fly them around, other than sharing basic costs like fuel.

The minimum flight time for Private Pilots doing their helicopter training for this rating under Part 61 is 40 hours. Part 141 minimum flight training time for your Private Pilot certificate is 35 hours. Ground training under Part 141 is a minimum of 35 hours.

Be aware that the the minimum flight training hours required by the FAA are seldom enough. Most schools use these hours to quote prices, so we have done the same so that you may easily compare schools, programs and prices. The actual number of helicopter flight training hours varies by student. On average, students doing the Private Pilot program need 50-55 hours of flight time. We suggest that you budget for 50-55 hours for your flight training.

The following numbers are based on the FAA minimums and the discounted rates package to give you an idea of costs. We included the Average Cost based on the flight time required by most students for their helicopter training. Please note that if you continue on with your helicopter training and do additional ratings, your proficiency level rises substantially. Many pilots doing the Professional Pilot helicopter training program catch up with FAA minimums during their Commercial training.
