US Aviation Academy in Denton, Texas was recently awarded the contract for the Department of Transportation’s Forces to Flyer’s initiative for the Southwest Region. As part of the initiative the contract pays for all flight training fees except for $13,526 which must be either funded through use of the GI bill or personal funds to be deposited before beginning training. Books, supplies, and check ride fees, estimated at $3,000, will also be at the veteran’s expense. The Post 9/11 GI Bill cannot be used to pay for living expenses under this program. Please plan accordingly to use personal funds, external support, or part-time employment for living costs. US Aviation is now taking applications for the December cohort. You must be able to start in December. Applications are due by October 31st, 2018. The student pilot certificate and FAA medical are not required at time of application, but must be obtained before the December start date. US Aviation will then select candidates no later than November 9th. Class will start in early December and training is anticipated to take 12 months.
This is an accelerated, full time program that earns the following licenses and ratings:
- Private Pilot
- Instrument Rating
- Commercial Multi Engine and Single Engine
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
- CFI – Instrument (CFII)
During the course, you will be expected to train full time. The daily training schedule will be flexible and vary throughout the phases of training. Nights and weekends should be expected. Flight training is heavily dependent on the weather, so we must be flexible to train when conditions are favorable. The course is anticipated to take a 12 months.

If you are not comfortable in small aircraft, we strongly encourage you come take a discovery flight at US Aviation or a local flight school before applying. Forces to Flyers applicants are not obligated to work for US Aviation or any other entity after graduation, but we will be monitoring your progress and career. The goal of the program is to develop pilot who enter the commercial pilot workforce.
